A Pro Hockey Franchise, and up to $840K a Season Kept in the Building

Every time a fan taps a card at concessions, the team gets the sale and the card network takes a margin. A major professional hockey franchise worked with CredX to model a branded fan credit facility that keeps that margin, and the data behind it, inside the organization.

Where the margin goes.

$11K – $24.1Kleaving the building on a single sold-out game night
$450K – $988Kacross a full 41-game home schedule plus events

Blended card processing rate of 1.5% to 2.6% on $730K to $927K in fan-facing revenue per game.

A sold-out game at the organization's current arena generates roughly $730,000 to $927,000 in fan-facing revenue, across food and beverage, retail and event operations. At a blended card processing rate of 1.5% to 2.6%, between $11,000 and $24,100 of it leaves before the final buzzer.

Neither the organization nor its fans see that cost. It goes to a network that had no part in building the team, filling the arena or creating the experience that made the purchase happen.

The facility.

Fan spend that qualifies is routed through a co-processing embedded value layer at a flat rate, with a team-branded credit facility on top. The infrastructure runs behind the scenes; the fan only ever sees the team.

Onboarding at the venue
A fan scans a QR code at a concessions terminal. Within minutes they can use a pre-approved, team-branded credit facility at every point of sale in the venue: food and beverage, merchandise, premium upgrades, parking and event entry.
Nothing new to carry
No new app, and no need to replace the payment method the fan already uses. Fans opt in with full consent, and from then on their transaction data works for them.
Scoped to the team
The facility works only inside the organization's ecosystem: the arena, affiliated club venues, official digital commerce and sponsor-linked touchpoints the organization adds. It cannot be used at a grocery store, a competitor's venue or any third-party merchant.
No credit exposure for the club
The organization carries no credit risk; lending is delivered through CredX's banking partners. The organization keeps the value the facility creates, and the data that fan spending produces belongs to the organization.

Fan data, generated by fans, stays with the team.

What changes when the facility is in place.

When a fan carries a pre-approved facility tied to the team they follow, the decision to upgrade a seat, order a second round or pick up a jersey is no longer a question of whether the card has room. For many fans that decision has already been made.

Across embedded credit, removing that in-the-moment friction tends to increase both transaction size and purchase frequency. Most published data on it comes from online checkouts, so the organization is working with CredX to define what the pattern looks like inside a live arena, where the spending context is different.

A directional pattern observed across embedded credit, not a measured result for this venue.

A new kind of sponsorship inventory.

Traditional sponsorship is sold on visibility: logo placement, broadcast mentions, signage in high-traffic areas. The value is real, but it is hard to tie to a commercial outcome.

With transaction data aggregated and de-identified across the fan base, and explicit opt-in at every stage, the organization can see what it never could: which fan segments drive food and beverage volume, which nights produce the most merchandise sales, which premium members engage most with experiential upgrades. Spend concentrates by section, by game and by opponent.

For a financial institution, a retailer or a beverage brand, that is proof of economic engagement, something broadcast reach cannot offer, and it stays consent-based and anonymized throughout.

The value of this inventory will be modelled once a sponsorship valuation framework is in place.

Across a full season.

The figures below are directional estimates for a single property over a 41-game home schedule. They draw on the organization's business case, standard venue economics and publicly available transaction volume data.

Transaction cost recapture, single property, 41-game home schedule
Member adoptionPer-season recapture
40%$180K – $395K
65%$293K – $642K
85%$383K – $840K

All figures are estimates. Blended card processing rate assumed at 1.5% to 2.6%. Per-game revenue base of $730K to $927K, drawn from current annual venue volume of $30M to $38M across a 41-game home schedule.

Across all five properties.

$532K – $1.21Mtransaction cost recaptured each year, system-wide
$773K – $1.70Mcombined annual value, with hardware savings and fan intelligence

Directional estimates across the ownership group's five professional franchises.

The franchise is one of five professional properties under the same ownership group. Across all five, qualifying card volume runs $49M to $66M a year today, rising to $83M to $115M once the planned new arena is included.

Transaction cost recapture across the full system runs $532,000 to $1.21 million a year. QR hardware and settlement savings, and the value of fan intelligence, sit on top of that, for a combined system value of $773,000 to $1.70 million.

The movement behind the model.

For decades, the economic activity consumers generate has been captured by the institutions in the middle of every transaction. CredX starts from a different premise: the people who create value through their participation should own it. Fans who fill arenas and build the commercial environment that makes professional sport viable deserve more than a points balance that expires.

The fan credit facility is not a loyalty program and not a payment product. It is an embedded-value ecosystem where fan spending stays within the organization, fan data is held with explicit consent, and the financial infrastructure works for the people using it.
